Lead Programmer
Description
The Programming Leader is ultimately in charge of all programming for the game. They are responsible for making sure the various sub-modules of the game are being implemented properly, and for keeping track of development from a programming standpoint. The Programming Leader spends significant time programming and must be knowledgeable about most technical areas of the game. The Programming Leader decides will solve analysis and design issues, recommend technology solutions to the Development Director, and will manage and distribute work to different members of the programming team. The Programming Leader must be able to code all aspects of the game and mentor and code review other programmers on the team as needed. They also work closely with the other leads on the art, design, and production teams, and help develop schedules and define milestones. The Programming Leader must be able to manage, mentor, develop and lead a team.
Skills
The Programming Leader will have at least five years of experience in the industry and has had a hand in most, if not all, aspects of programming games. The Programming Leader must be an expert in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, 3D Rendering, 3D animation, 3D math, physics, multiplayer, and/or audio. The Programming Leader should have excellent C/C++ programming skills, Flash/Flex, as well as a very solid understanding of object oriented design and programming concepts. They understand professional software development methodologies and QA and testing approaches. They should have a degree in Computer Science, excellent math skills, and are able to program as part of a team. Finally, the Programming leader should have familiarity with large game development and workflow, a great understanding of common online gaming terminology, firsthand knowledge of server/client based games, and have experience with online browser games.
